THE Kitchen September 26, 2009

Yet again, I shall start this post with the usual “I haven’t written here in ages..” because I haven’t. I’ve just been too busy and too tired to talk about my day the past month++.

I’ve been training at Hotel X (we don’t wanna get into trouble with the lawyers here guys) and let me tell you, the kitchen is the devil’s nesting place. Haha Kitchen work’s soooo heavy, and I mean that in every sense of the word. I work a 9-hour shift, which can sometimes extend to 12 when the hotel’s fully booked for functions or just room occupancy. Most of the kitchen employees are male so it’s oozing with testosterone, which forces me to act like a bitch most of the time just to keep the sharks at bay. I keed. I keed. But yeah, being a bitch really does have it’s advantages especially in a world as mental as the kitchen. It’s fun though. Disregard the inevitable psycho chefs you encounter, the work’s pretty fun and fulfilling. Well, that is, if you don’t get stuck serving fruits and desserts to hotel guests (which let’s face it is NOT really anybody’s idea of a good time).

Highlights of my Hotel X experience:

  • Hot hotel guests. I’m specifically fond of the memory of the hot Spanish guy who was staying at the hotel for business (he had been staying at the hotel for more than 3 weeks already when I was transferred from the fruit station to the japanese station–where I completely lost sightings of him since it was stationed at the back of the kitchen), whom I’ve decided to call Salvatore–the savior of my fruit serving days. I always look forward to watching him strut his good looks and hot body around the buffet area during breakfast (my shift back then was 6am-3pm). He would always eat cereals, and only twice or thrice ordered fruits from my station. But he did ask me for Yakult twice, and the one time my fingers actually grazed his…. Hmmmmmmmm…. and he was looking me in the eye. I swear I felt like he was looking into my soul. Hmmmm…… Salvatore Salvatore Salvatore… Hot Salvatore…
  • Okay enough with Salvatore Salvatore Salvatore Hot Salvatore. One other highlight of my training was actually meeting my fellow interns. It was just really nice to get to know other people. Whenever I’m home I usually hang out with my normal group of friends, so it was refreshing to meet people whom I would normally think I have nothing in common with just because they were just strangers to me. I can actually say that at some level we already actually consider each other friends and not just co-workers. There’s just something special about the bonds that you make over panicking around the kitchen and hiding from psycho chefs who have no sense of… well, who have no sense at all really.
  • I can really say for sure that the Japanese Station was just a really REALLY REALLY great experience for me. I learned more things during my 1 week stint at the Jap Station than my 3 or so weeks serving fruits, desserts, ice cream and cultured milk to hotel guests at the buffet area!
  • The danish pastries during pastry pull out. Heaven. And the hot chocolate.
  • Catching up with the chefs I worked with last year when I also interned at Hotel X.
  • Playing hooky once or twice when psycho chef wanted us to extend our hours. I know it’s a bad thing, but it was just really nice to bond with my co-interns over that. Haha
  • Eating ube turon outside the hotel and sharing a liter of Royal TRU ORANGE at sidewalk stores beside the hotel with Zai and Ansell.
  • Listening to my Harry Potter audiobooks while siesta-ing at the girls locker during my usually extended lunch break–this was just during my stint at the Japanese station though because work wasn’t too heavy.
  • Overtime! Other than the few times I tried to avoid overtime, I actually enjoyed extending my hours at Hotel X during busy days because I actually learned a lot! And it was always fun having to do something culinary-related when I was still stuck at the fruit station.
  • Free meal coupons.
  • Free candies from Zai. I’m a sucker for Cloud 9. Haha

I can probably list down a few more stuff, but I won’t anymore because I just might end up making this entry a bit too long, and my brain and my fingers might start protesting. Anyway bottom line is I’m glad I did the training. Even though I ended up finishing earlier than I was supposed to. I just couldn’t handle psycho chef anymore. Plus it was actually getting a bit boring for me already. I figured I should just end my training on a high note, when I’m still enjoying my work at the Japanese Station.

I wonder if I’ll ever see Salvatore Salvatore Salvatore Hot Salvatore again. Hot Spanish guy’s just too hot and gorgeous a memory to last. Haha

Anyway, I’M A REGISTERED VOTER!!! Politicians beware. I’m onto you.
